From Software never intended to make a PC version of the game until an online petition demanded it, and their inexperience with the format is obvious. The world is almost dead, your chances of success are miniscule, and yet hope is not yet entirely extinguishedвЂ¦ДЄll these moments are recreated in this new PC version but they are by no means improved. And yet there are moments of beauty too climbing to the top of a tower after hours in sewers and dungeons, and simply staring up at the mournfully setting sun says more than a hundred cut scenes ever could. If you prefer to focus on magic and healing, or favour armour over manoeuvrability, all you need to do is change your clothing and weapons. As long as you donвЂ™t panic you can easily topple even significantly larger and more powerful foes, as you weave and dodge, parry and block. Instead Dark Souls feels much more realistic, as you step and roll around your opponent вЂ“ your shield always tightly held in front of you, as you wait for an opening or tell for their next move. And all that despite it relying on only a tiny handful of moves, with no combos in the traditional fighting game sense. Wielding a variety of medieval melee and ranged weaponry Dark Souls has some of the most rewarding and tactical swordplay ever seen in a video game. But conversely you can also defeat them with relative ease, as long as you keep your wits about you and remain astutely aware of your surroundings and your opponentsвЂ™ abilities.ДЄlthough there is a strong role-playing element underpinning your upgradeable abilities and statistics this is a third person action game first and foremost. There are very few enemies in the game that canвЂ™t kill you with just a few attacks and many that need even less than that. In fact you could argue that itвЂ™s not the difficulty itself that is extraordinary, but the level of concentration and diligence it requires of the player. ThereвЂ™s nothing (or at least almost nothing) perverse or unfair about Dark SoulsвЂ™ difficultly. You can even transform back into a person by obtaining вЂhumanityвЂ™ from dead enemies вЂ“ although itвЂ™s a rare commodity and, as you may have heard, dying is a very frequent occurrence in Dark Souls. ThatвЂ™s how you start the game, but some trick of fate allows you to keep your human mind. You exist in a land where the bad guys have already won вЂ“ society is in terminal decline and everyone is turning into undead вЂhollowsвЂ™.
